Here, you’ll find a peaceful retreat in a lovingly restored period home, offering a perfect blend of timeless charm and modern comforts.
I’m Rachel, your host, and I live on-site with my friendly dog, Nugget. Whether you’re here to unwind or working while you’re away, I’m dedicated to making sure your stay is comfortable and memorable.
With a wealth of knowledge about the area, I’m usually available to help with recommendations, directions, or any local insights that make your visit extra special.
Whether you’re seeking quiet relaxation or a touch of local adventure, you’re in good hands at The Gables.
The Gables was built around 1870 for the local headmaster Mr William Battersby who ran the school opposite (now an architects office). He lived here until the turn of the century with his wife Emma and daughter Florence, who was also part of the school faculty.
The house was then sold to the local quarry for the engineers and their families.
In the 60’s it was due to be demolished to make way for a new link road – fortunately the plans were changed. A friends dad purchased the property for a steal as it was expected he wouldn’t have it for long before it was demolished!
In the top garden there is a bricked up entrance and rumour has is that was a local park, used for village gatherings.
The house is grade II listed and I'm trying to retain and re-instate as many period features and bring back the character of the building.
Escape to a world of comfort and hospitality at The Gables. Book your stay now and experience a truly remarkable getaway.
